Book group to tackle Philbrick classic

@Biz Ledger Coffee answers:Join the summer season of the Rolling Meadows Library’s Four Seasons Book Club. The nonfiction book discussion group, hosted by reference librarian Nana Herron, will be discussing “In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex” by Nathaniel Philbrick.

This is a story of adventure and survival. The Essex left Nantucket in 1819 on a routine whale hunt only to be attacked and sunk by a whale. The crew drifted for more than 90 days, facing starvation and dehydration as they struggled to live. Of the original 20-man crew, only eight survived.

The tale of the Essex is the stuff of which legends are made. In fact, it inspired Herman Melville to write his classic work, “Moby-Dick.”
