Huntley man killed by boat propeller

A 61-year-old Huntley man was killed in a boating accident on a northwest Indiana Lake Sunday afternoon, according to police.

Roger Martin was riding on the riding on the edge of the front of the boat when two people on tubes being pulled behind the boat fell off, said Indiana Conservation Officer Cpl. Ashlee Jackson.

Police said the driver made a right-hand turn to pick up the tubers, which caused Martin to fall from the boat. The boat’s propeller struck Martin, who was not wearing a life jacket, causing severe injuries.

Emergency crews responded to Lake Latonka at 3:16 p.m. and transported Martin to a hospital in Plymouth, Ind., where he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving, Jackson said.

Jackson said Martin was on the lake spending time with his family when the accident occurred.

Police are not seeking charges against the driver.
