Des Plaines approves gun shop relocation

The Des Plaines City Council recently approved a conditional-use permit allowing Maxon Shooter Supply and Indoor Range, 1226 Rand Road, to relocate to an industrial/manufacturing zone at 75 Bradrock Drive.

Maxon will expand its current 4,000-square-foot building into a 14,670-square-foot facility. The new space will house two 75-by-30-foot shooting ranges, 2,340 square feet of retail space, two classrooms, storage areas and a gunsmith shop. The gun range is scheduled to open in February.

City officials required the gun shop owner to make parking lot improvements at the new location, add sidewalks and landscaping, submit a security plan and ensure that police and fire radios work inside the building — a problem emergency personnel had at the Rivers Casino. The measure passed unanimously.
