Learn about metabolic syndrome July 17 at Advocate Good Shepherd
Metabolic syndrome is a combination of medical conditions that increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
A presentation by Dr. Michael Fortsas, board certified cardiologist with the Advocate Medical Group, will be given from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 17 at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
“Metabolic Syndrome is now recognized as a significant risk factor for developing Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease,” said Fortsas. “In order to reduce risk, lifestyle change is essential to help prevent disease and premature death.”
Physicians at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital recognize the importance of informing patients on how to stay healthy and prevent avoidable, life threatening conditions. People with metabolic syndrome have some or all of the following: high blood glucose, high blood pressure, obesity, low HDL, elevated cholesterol and high triglycerides. It is crucial that patients remain proactive about their health by recognizing the signs and symptoms of preventable diseases. Throughout the lecture, guests will have the opportunity to ask questions about the various health issues connected to Metabolic Syndrome. A light meal will be included.
