Relocate Philhaven to better site

I just wanted to write in support of the Village of Wheeling’s decision to vote down Philhaven. They did the right thing. The builder was trying to make a big profit and Wheeling has never had that kind of a parking variance before.

I understand that this piece of property is a really good price for the builder, but I think they need to see the big picture. It is on a very busy road, actually a Type IV Hazardous Road, with V being the worst. IDOT has the daily traffic count at 19,000 per day. There was not enough supervision of the disabled people living at the site. No 24-hour supervision. No crosswalk, no traffic light, and very little bus service.

In my opinion, they were putting people with disabilities on a property that has no access for everyday life. Yes, there are many people that need a building like this, but let’s make it a building that is on a safe site, and one that the neighbors will enjoy having next door. This project had too many unanswered questions.
