South Barrington man injured when car hits semi on I-90

A 36-year-old South Barrington man driving a Lexus rear-ended a semi truck southwest of Marengo early today, injuring one and briefly shutting down a portion of the Jane Addams Tollway, authorities said.

Hampshire Fire Protection District crews responded to the accident at 7:20 a.m. and extricated Dhaval Patel from the Lexus.

He was then flown by helicopter to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford for a broken leg, said Sgt. Tim Moore of the Illinois State Police.

The accident occurred on I-90 westbound at mile post 33.35, three or four miles west of the toll booth, and it closed that portion of the tollway for about a half-hour, authorities said.

The state police continue to investigate but have indicated there is no evidence that alcohol was involved in the crash.
