Buffalo Grove hires reforester
The Village of Buffalo Grove has contracted with Eugene A. de St. Aubin & Bro. Inc. to plant new trees after the village has removed those infested with the Emerald Ash Borer. The contractor will plant 1,000 trees in the spring of 2012, to be harvested in 2014. The village has agreed to pay the company $170,000 in three installments. Bids were waived for the project, because, as Village Manager Dane Bragg explained, the company has been the village's contract grower and has had a good success rate with attractive pricing. “So I feel very confident that we're getting a good deal,” he said. Bragg said it is likely that St. Aubin will be hired to grow an additional 6,000 trees to replace the victims of EAB. Recently, village officials said the entire village's ash trees are completely infested with EAB. Deputy Director of Public Works Rick Kuhl said the replanting will have 20 to 30 different variety of trees.
