Polls close in Wisconsin recalls

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin polls are now closed, but state election officials are stressing that anyone who was in line at 8 p.m. can still get to vote in the state's historic recall contests.

The state Government Accountability Board reported long lines and heavy turnout throughout the day Tuesday as Republican Gov. Scott Walker and four other GOP officeholders face recall challengers.

Walker faces a rematch with Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, whom he beat in 2010 by nearly six percentage points. The board expects up to 65 percent of Wisconsin's eligible voters to turn out.
