10-year-old boy drowns in Montgomery

A 10-year-boy was pronounced dead Sunday after being pulled from Jericho Lake in Montgomery where he apparently was swimming with his siblings.

Fox Valley Park District Police are investigating the death in conjunction with other agencies. The name of the boy was still being withheld Monday.

Police received an emergency call to Jericho Lake Park at 6 p.m. for a missing boy. The boy had been visiting the park with his parents, siblings and other relatives.

The boy’s siblings lost sight of him and were initially unsure whether he had left the water where they were swimming.

Rescue divers were called in and found the boy submerged in the lake. Paramedics rushed him to Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials from the Kane County Coroner’s office could not be reached Monday to comment on the boy’s cause of death.

Police said Jericho Lake is a 20-acre fishing and boating lake located within Jericho Lake Park. Swimming is strictly prohibited in the lake and signs are prominently posted, they added.
