Chorus earns regional championship trophy, off to international competition

The Choral-Aires Chorus wowed judges at the Sweet Adelines International Lake Michigan Region 3 competition last weekend, securing the Chorus' tenth championship title in eleven years, and earning the right to compete against hundreds of other choruses in Honolulu, Hawaii, in November 2013.

The Chorus accomplished this amidst the largest leadership transition it has experienced in more than twenty years. In January, longstanding Master Director, Joan Boutilier stepped down and Assistant Director Bonnie Fedyski stepped in to serve as Interim Director. The Chorus Board of Directors also recently underwent annual elections.

"We couldn't be more thrilled about our performance at regional competition," says incoming Chorus President Nancy Smith. "Although we are walking through significant transition right now, our members are working harder than ever. The Chorus is growing in both strength and numbers; there is no better place to sing right now than with the Choral-Aires!"

Women passionate about music are invited to join the Choral-Aires Chorus during weekly rehearsals held each Monday from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Redeemer Lutheran Church Recreation Center (345 S. Kenilworth Avenue, Elmhurst). For more information, contact Valerie Baxter at 630.279.1439 or vbaxter@sbcglobal.net.

More than 100 women from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin sing tight harmonies a cappella (without instrumentation) with the Choral-Aires Chorus, a Sweet Adelines International medaling chorus, and the 2008 Lake Michigan Region 3 Champion. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. More information about the Chorus can be found at their website, http://choral-aires.com.
