NHL suspends Torres for hit on Hossa
Phoenix Coyotes forward Raffi Torres been suspended indefinitely for his hit on Marian Hossa Tuesday night in the first period of the Blackhawks' 3-2 overtime loss in Game 3, it was announced Wednesday.
Torres, whose flying shoulder to the head of Hossa went unpenalized, will have an in-person hearing Friday with the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety. According to nhl.com, the hearing, which had been planned for Wednesday, was deferred at the request of the player and the National Hockey League Players' Association.
"When a guy gets carried off on a stretcher, you think there might be something wrong with what happened?" Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said after the game. "It's pretty frustrating."
Hossa was taken off the ice by stretcher and taken to the hospital where he was released later Tuesday night. In a release, the Blackhawks said they "anticipate a full recovery (for Hossa) in a timetable to be determined."
