Kane County event draws attention to child abuse issue

Submitted by CASA Kane County

Help draw attention to the issue of child abuse and neglect in Kane County.

CASA Kane County will celebrate National Child Abuse Prevention Month by hosting its eighth annual Hands Around the Courthouse ceremony at noon Thursday, April 12, inside the historic Kane County Courthouse, 100 S. Third St. in Geneva.

The ceremony is open to the public and lasts 20 minutes.

Chief Judge Robert Spence and Associate Judge Clint Hull will address the crowd along with CASA Kane County Executive Director Gloria Bunce. Participants will pause for a moment of silence acknowledging local victims of child abuse and neglect.

Food will be provided after the ceremony, courtesy of Pockets of Aurora. The event is also being sponsored by The Exchange Club of the Tri-Cities.

The mission of CASA Kane County is to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the Juvenile Court system. In 2011, 268 CASA volunteers represented 515 abused and neglected children.
