Library to digitally preserve historic items

Submitted by Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library

The Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library, 109 S. State St., is hosting a Digital Donation Day at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17.

They are asking the public to bring in items of local (Pingree, Burlington, Hampshire, etc.) historical value.

Volunteers will be on hand to digitally preserve the items as quickly as possible. Individuals will then be able to take their items home while library staff will post the digital representations online in the new Digital Archives.

They are asking for donations for new Digital Archives Collections. The library is currently putting together three different Digital Archives for Images, the Grand Army of the Republic, and for a broader Historical Collection. The Images collection can currently be found at cdm16614.contentdm.oclc.org/cdm/search/collection/p16614coll3/.
