CTA offers cell phone paid parking

Chicago commuters have a new way to pay for parking.

Chicago Transit Authority officials say the agency will let customers pay for parking via cellphones.

The mobile phone parking will be available at 14 different CTA Park & Ride lots. It’s offered through a company called Parkmobile, which allows cashless transactions from cellphones.

Here’s how it works. Once commuters pull into a parking space, they can make a phone call or use an ap to make the transaction. Payments are linked to credit or debit cards.

The company will also send text alerts before parking times are set to expire.

CTA President Forrest Claypool says payment for parking through cellphones will improve the customer experience.
