Arraignment set in reckless homicide case

Two drivers charged with reckless homicide in the Dec. 12 crash that killed the 10-year-old son of one of the men are scheduled to be arraigned April l4 in Lake County Circuit Court. Police say Scott Shirey, 49, of Island Lake, was under the influence of marijuana when the car he was driving was struck by a pickup truck driven by Matthew Loiacano, 29. Police said Loiacano, of Kansasville, Wis., ran a red light at Route 12 and Old McHenry Road. Griffin Shirey, 10, was killed in the crash and his twin brother Nicholas suffered serious injuries. Assistant State’s Attorney Ken LaRue said Shirey faces up to 14 years in prison if convicted and Loiacano faces a maximum of five years in prison. Both men are free on bond.
