Duckworth declares victory

Tammy Duckworth, victorious in her 8th Congressional District Democratic primary bid, wasted no time in taking on her next opponent, Tea Party Republican Joe Walsh of McHenry.

“The results are in and we are on our way to take on Joe Walsh,” Duckworth said in declaring victory Tuesday over Democratic rival Raja Krishnamoorthi.

Duckworth had with 67 percent of the vote, with 98 percent of precincts reporting.

Walsh was quick to respond to the identification of his general election opponent, challenging Duckworth to a series of town hall-style debates beginning next month.

Krishnamoorthi congratulated Duckworth for conducting a “hard-fought and clean fight,” pledging his full support to her in her campaign against Walsh in the fall.
