Now it’s our turn to support the parks

I am a longtime homeowner and family man living for many years in Surrey Ridge West and would like to affirm that our park district deserves an overwhelming “Yes” on the upcoming referendum scheduled for March 20.

In 1969, I moved here from my hometown, New Rochelle, N.Y., a city with the same population as Arlington Heights, 77,000. Recently I asked them to send me their brochure issued by their Recreation Commission of the offerings available to their citizens.

It came ... all 17 pages. Our park district brochure usually runs to 130 pages.

For us, all this time, we have had the use of Heritage Park and its super facilities — pool, soccer field, tennis courts, etc.

Who provided my family with all these facilities? Obviously all those caring citizens of Arlington Heights who had the forethought to support any and all prior referendums necessary to build all these wonderful parks.

I believe it is payback time — to say thanks to all the predecessor family men ahead of me for what they did for us, and, and to pay a few dollars more in taxes each year to provide new and improved facilities for all the future homeowners and families coming after me.
