Our recommendations for Kane County Board, districts 19, 20

County board, District 19, GOP: KojzarekThe GOP primary pits Elgin Town Clerk Kurt Kojzarek, who has worked as a policy analyst in Springfield, against Victor LaPorte, an Elgin Tea Party loyalist who ran for this seat as an independent and lost and also lost in a bid for the Gail Borden Library board. Both men seek to replace longtime board member Cathy Hurlbut, who is running for circuit court clerk. We endorse Kojzarek for his familiarity with the issues and common sense, fiscally conservative response to issues in Kane County. While LaPorte says there are many things wrong with Kane County government, he does not provide many details. County board, District 20, Democrat: CastroDemocratic incumbent Cristina Castro is running against Penny Wegman and Jose SiFuentes, all from Elgin. Only Castro and Wegman responded to requests for information and interviews. Castro, a relative newcomer to the board, has a good grasp of the board dynamics and the knowledge of the issues to continue contributing. Her ideas, such as merging county offices and departments to further reduce expenses, merit discussion. Wegman lacks solid ideas about how to improve upon the job already being done. Castro is endorsed.
