Blumenthal for Lake recorder of deeds

Two Republicans are vying for the right to challenge the 16-year incumbent in the Lake County Recorder Of Deeds Office this fall. Mundelein resident Bob Bednar, who has worked in the real estate, insurance and banking industries, and Highland Park attorney and CPA Marty Blumenthal both cite knowledge gained from years working with the largely administrative office as their top qualification. The winner will challenge Democrat Mary Ellen Vanderventer in November. Bednar and Blumenthal hold similar views on issues facing the recorder’s office, including the need for technology improvements and a more accessible website. Both also question whether the recorder should be an elected position, and say they will investigate whether the job can be folded into the county clerk’s office. But it’s Blumenthal who offers more detail in his plans, such as creating remote access for large-volume filers like title companies that could reduce personnel costs, and he gets our recommendation.
