Carol Stream honors volunteers with citizen awards

Those who exhibit exceptional volunteer service in Carol Stream were recognized last weekend at the 2011 Carol Stream Citizen of the Year awards.

Award winners are chosen by past recipients of the awards after receiving nominations from local service organizations.

Awardees of the Citizen of the Year recognition, given to those who have volunteered in at least one group in 2011, are Elise Ciribassi of the Carol Stream Rotary Club and Rick Gieser of the Carol Stream July Fourth Parade Committee.

Special Citizen of the Year awards, given to those who have volunteered for five straight years in the community, were given to Julie Panicali of the Benjamin District 25 Foundation and Tony Pedraza of the Carol Stream Park District.

Judge’s Recognition awards, which recognizes volunteers who live outside Carol Stream, were given to Jonathan Fischer of the Carol Stream Rotary Club, Alison Moe of the Jay Stream Middle School PTA and Dan Whitford of the Carol Stream Citizen of the Year Committee.

A total of 14 people were nominated for the awards. All who are nominated in the Judge’s Recognition category receive that award.

The awards have been given out since 1965.
