Suburban sports bars throw big Super Bowl parties

Maybe you'd like to come home from your Super Bowl party Sunday with a new HDTV? Or hundreds of dollars in cash? Or an NFL mini-fridge?

You won't get any of those watching the game from your friend's couch.

Suburban sports bars are pulling out all the stops this weekend to get football fans off the couch and into their establishments with incentives like game-day drink specials, food buffets and prize giveaways.

America's Bar & Grill in Hoffman Estates is bringing in a “money cube” for its “$1,000 Super Bowl Extravaganza.” The glass-encased cube blows dollar bills around, and a lucky few will get a chance to stand inside for a set time and grab up all the money they can.

They'll also give out prizes during commercial breaks, ranging from T-shirts to passes to the 2012 Blackhawks Convention.

“We wanted to find something different that you can't find anywhere else,” America's owner Richard Garcia said. “It's the Super Bowl. It's a time for us to shine.”

Real Sports in Elk Grove Village will give away a 26-inch HDTV, among other prizes, during its Super Bowl party. The bar also will have an all-you-can-eat buffet and drink specials plus the Newcastle beer girls circulating with free samples.

A special $2 Super Bowl shot is being created for the party at Sideouts in Island Lake.

The bar will let women dine at their massive buffet for half price ($5). The food selection includes Sideouts' popular barbecue meatballs, Buffalo wings, an assortment of salads, sausage and peppers and chicken Vesuvio.

Sideouts also has a new ice rink alongside the bar, which patrons can use if they lose interest in the game.

It might be East Coast teams battling out for the NFL championship, but the party is here in the Midwest. And why cook up your own hot wings when someone is willing to do it for you?
