Naperville woman dies after vehicle strikes tree

An 86-year-old Naperville woman died Monday afternoon shortly after the driver of a vehicle she was a passenger in struck a tree in a residential neighborhood, according to police.

Josephine Guy was wearing her seat belt in the 2003 Dodge Neon driven by 77-year-old Margaret Murphy when the vehicle left the roadway near the intersection of Royal St. George Drive at Briergate Drive. police said.

The vehicle was heading south on Royal St. George when it left the roadway and struck a tree in the front parkway of a home on Royal St. George, according to police.

Police responded to the 911 call at approximately 12:11 p.m. and transported both women to Edward Hospital. Guy was pronounced dead at the hospital from injuries suffered in the crash, and Murphy was treated for minor injuries, police said.

The accident, which occurred near Cress Creek Country Club, remains under investigation by the Naperville Police Departments accident reconstruction team.
