hello

A grinch almost got away with stealing the Christmas presents of an Elk Grove Village family earlier this week.

Jose A. Chavez-Sanchez, 21, of the 2200 block of Pennview Lane, Schaumburg, was arrested Dec. 19 after he tried to return the gifts, stolen that morning from a home in the 600 block of New Mexico Trail, to the store where they were purchased, police said.

Police caught up with Chavez-Sanchez at a home in the 600 block of North Martingale in Schaumburg after identifying him from video surveillance footage at the Dick's Sporting Goods store where he returned the goods in exchange for a gift card, Elk Grove Village Police Sgt. Nick Olsen said.
