Fire decline option on Husidic

The Chicago Fire on Tuesday declined to pick up the contract option of Libertyville native Baggio Husidic, likely ending the midfielder’s tenure with his hometown team.

The Fire also declined the options on backup goalkeepers Jon Conway and Alec Dufty, leaving Sean Johnson the only goalkeeper under contract on the roster.

Husidic, Conway and Dufty will all be available to other MLS teams in the re-entry drafts, with Stage 1 scheduled for Monday and Stage 2 Dec. 12.

Husidic, 24, graduated from Libertyville High School and then played three years at UIC. He was the Fire’s second-round draft pick in 2009.

He played in 18 MLS games, starting nine of them, in 2011, his first year as a senior roster player after leaving the league’s Generation adidas program. He scored 5 goals in his three Chicago seasons, all of them in 2010.

Conway, 34, started six MLS games for the Fire in 2011, his lone season with the club.
