Sugar Grove Library board to discuss director search

The Sugar Grove Library board is having a special meeting Thursday to discuss what it’s looking for in a new library director.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the library, 125 S. Municipal Drive.

The board will discuss the search process with the consultant it hired to find a new director.

It fired the previous director in July, a move that drew much criticism from library district residents. That director, Beverly Holmes Hughes, had worked for the district for 21 years, and was so involved in civic activities in Sugar Grove that she was named a Sugar Grove Citizen of the Year even though she lives in North Aurora.

It considered, then dropped, pursuing mediation to see if it could work out its differences with Hughes, and rehire her.

The library is on its second interim director.
