Northern Illinois Food Bank earns another top rating

Northern Illinois Food Bank in Geneva has been recognized as one of the top charities across the nation after receiving a four-star rating for the eighth consecutive year as rated by Charity Navigator, a premier charity evaluator.

This distinction places Northern Illinois Food Bank in the top one percent of all charities rated by the organization. The food bank received this rating as a result of its commitment to making strong fiscal decisions and accountability in utilizing donations to grow food bank programs. Ninety-six cents of every dollar donated goes toward the food bank's mission to provide nutritious food to hungry people in northern Illinois. Northern Illinois Food Bank is able to turn every dollar donated into six meals for those in need.

“We are honored to receive this distinctive recognition from Charity Navigator,” said Pete Schaefer, President and CEO of Northern Illinois Food Bank. “We take seriously our responsibility to our donors to ensure we are using their donations wisely to support our mission of feeding our hungry neighbors.”

In fiscal year 2011, Northern Illinois Food Bank distributed 35 million pounds of food, the equivalent of 29 million meals to hungry people, through a network of 600 partner agencies in 13 Illinois counties. More than 60,000 different people each week seek food assistance through the food bank's network of food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and youth and senior feeding programs.
