Eldrup hearing delayed:

A hearing to determine what, if any, restitution is owed by the owner of a Deer Park kennel convicted of allowing animals under her care to starve to death was delayed Monday in Lake County Circuit Court. Diane Eldrup, 48, was found guilty in September of animal torture and aggravated cruelty to animals for allowing 30 dogs, three birds and an opossum die at the former Muddy Paws Dog Rescue. Monday, prosecutors hoped to convince Circuit Judge James Booras to divide the $25,000 posted for Eldrup’s bond between the owners of the animals and others connected to the case. Booras agreed to delay the hearing until Dec. 12 to give prosecutors more time to estimate the financial costs of Eldrup’s crimes. Eldrup was sentenced to a year in jail and 30 months on probation for her conviction in the criminal case.
