Naperville man charged with sexual assault

A 34-year-old Naperville man was indicted by a DuPage County grand jury on charges he entered his estranged wife’s home, sexually assaulted her and then threatened to kill her and her mother if she told police.

The grand jury handed down the 22-count indictment this week against Kenny Edwards of the 2800 block of Vernal Lane. The charges, which all stem from the single Oct. 30 incident, include six of home invasion, six of aggravated criminal sexual assault and three of criminal sexual assault.

Edwards also was charged with residential burglary, aggravated criminal sexual abuse, aggravated domestic battery, intimidation and unlawful restraint.

Police said they responded about 6:15 a.m. Oct. 30 to a report of a domestic dispute on the 700 block of Benedetti Drive. Upon arrival, the victim told police Edwards had attacked her.

Police located Edwards and his vehicle several minutes later and arrested him after a brief struggle.

According to the indictment, the victim told police Edwards hit her with his hands and a chair while sexually assaulting her, leading to the aggravated criminal sexual assault charges.

Additionally, Edwards is accused of trying to choke the victim. He remains in DuPage County jail on $200,000 bail.
