Deer hunting season about to begin in Illinois

SPRINGFIELD — The state's most popular hunting season is about to begin.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says firearm deer season opens Friday through Sunday. The seven-day firearm hunt ends Dec. 1 to 4.

State officials say conservation police will be out in full force to prevent poaching. They'll also be conducting airplane details.

Agency director Marc Miller says ethics and safety are top priorities.

During last year's seven-day firearm deer hunting season, Illinois hunters harvested nearly 100,000 deer.

State officials say more than 327,000 permits have been issued for this year's hunt.

In most counties, hunters must register any caught deer.
