Elk Grove students show school spirit for NBC telecast

Students who might normally be trying to catch a little more sleep had the place rocking at 6 a.m. Friday at Elk Grove High School.

The school was the latest winner of the online voting competition that designates a Chicago area school as the prep destination of the week for the NBC 5 News Today telecast.

The NBC film crew arrives around 5:30 a.m. and the student body and all of its spirit groups is featured in live news feeds until 7 a.m.

This is the third year of NBC’s prep destination of the week features, when it moves around the Chicago area spotlighting high school football and accompanying school spirit.

The event always ends with the popular Dance Friday segment, when students, their spirit squads and administrators join NBC personalities in a on-air dance set to a surprise music selection.
