Police: Woman turns self in, found with heroin

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A woman looking to resolve a warrant for her arrest landed in more legal trouble when authorities in southwestern Illinois say they found heroin in her purse at the jail.

The Belleville News-Democrat (http://bit.ly/nTzqKh ) reports that 24-year-old Kelli McFain of Fairview Heights was arrested Friday when the drug turned up in her purse after she went to the Madison County Jail to resolve a warrant.

Deputies had seized her purse for security reasons before she was escorted into the jail.

Prosecutors on Tuesday charged her with felony possession of a controlled substance.

McFain’s mother, Diane Gerstner, tells The Associated Press her daughter has been in and out of rehab, was afraid she’d die of heroin and opted to turn herself in to get off the drug for good.
