Manhunt underway for St. Charles bank robber

St. Charles police are searching for a man who robbed a TCF National Bank branch just before noon today inside the Jewel-Osco store at 2073 Prairie Street.

A man entered the store, went to the bank counter and demanded cash from the teller while implying he had a firearm, St. Charles Deputy Police Chief Steve Huffman said in a news release. The man was not wearing a mask and left on foot in an unknown direction, Huffman said.

“He got away with money but we can't disclose how much,” he said.

The suspect is described as a male in his mid-20s with very short blond hair, about 6 feet tall, 170 to 175 pounds, wearing a white sleeveless T-shirt and black-and-blue checkered shorts, police said.

Police will be examining videotapes from the bank, located near the intersection of Randall Road and Route 38, but don't know yet how useful those will be, Huffman said.

The Geneva police department and the Kane County Sheriff's office helped search the area, police said.

Huffman said he didn't know of any similar robberies having taken place recently in the area.

“We are working with the FBI to compare,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact St. Charles police at (630) 377-4435.
