Bartlett opens photo exhibits on Taiwan

After a group of Bartlett residents last year visited Taiwan, their counterparts from the sister city of Miaoli City returned the favor on Thursday.

A crowd gathered for the unveiling of a photo exhibit, “Enchanting Taiwan,” at the new Bartlett Center for the Arts. Open houses with refreshments will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The exhibit, which runs through July 26, features art loaned by members of the Arts in Bartlett.

A related photo exhibit, “Retracing Our Steps: A Photo Journey Through 100 Years of the ROC,” celebrating Taiwan's centennial, will be on display at village hall, 228 S. Main St., during the same period.

The members of the arts group in February 2010 traveled to Miaoli City, Taiwan, as part of the Bartlett International Chorus concert tour. The chorus performed songs in both English and Hakka, the native language of Miaoli City in northwest Taiwan. During the reciprocal visit to Bartlett, the Hakka were accompanied by a Taiwanese television crew filming a documentary on Hakka people in the U.S. and Canada.

The “Enchanting Taiwan” exhibit is at the new location for Arts in Bartlett. The 1,300-square-foot space is at 118 W. Bartlett Ave. #2. and features gallery and lesson spaces, as well as artist studios.
