Hospital construction projects go before board

JOLIET — A health care planning board is meeting Tuesday to consider two competing hospital projects in northern Illinois and a hospital in Shiloh near St. Louis.

Hospitals planned for Huntley and Crystal Lake will be considered by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board at a meeting in Joliet.

The board also will weigh a plan to build a 94-bed hospital in Shiloh, near St. Louis.

The board has the authority to approve or deny requests to build hospitals in Illinois. The goal is to avoid duplication of health services.

Centegra Health System wants to build a 128-bed acute care hospital in Huntley at an estimated cost of $233 million.

Mercy Alliance Inc. wants to build a 128-bed acute care in Crystal Lake. The projected cost is $200 million.
