Des Plaines water park opens for season

Hundreds lined up at Mystic Waters Family Aquatic Center, 2025 Miner St., for the June 4 opening, as temperatures reached 90 degrees for the first time this summer. One of the largest water parks in Northern Illinois, Mystic Waters is open weekdays, 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and weekends, 11 a.m.-8 p.m.

The water park features two 37-foot slides in Otter’s Run, drop slides and cliff dive platforms in Sea Lion Falls, a 550-foot lazy river in Crocodile Cove where patrons can float on inner tubes, a zero-depth leisure pool, and Beluga Beach, a splash pad area with a jungle gym on a nonslip surface with water sprays and fountains for tots and nonswimmers.

All three of the Des Plaines Park District pools, Mystic Waters and Chippewa and Iroquois neighborhood pools, are in compliance with the Virginia Graeme Baker Act. “All of the new pool drain covers have been inspected and certified by the Illinois Department of Public Health,” said Paul Cathey, superintendent of Parks and Planning.

Season pool passes are available for purchase at Mystic Waters, as well as at the Administrative and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St. and Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 E. Thacker St. For information about planning a party at Mystic Waters or renting Chippewa Pool for a private event, call (847) 391-5700.
