Island Lake mediation canceled

A mediation session between Island Lake Mayor Debbie Herrmann and village trustees scheduled for Wednesday has been canceled, officials said. Herrmann sued two current and two now-former trustees in March after the board adopted a series of ordinances and amendments seeking to chip away at her executive power. In April, both sides agreed to meet with a mediator to resolve the issue. But the session was canceled because the attorney for the trustees has refused to pay a requested fee, trustees said Monday. The attorneys for Herrmann paid the fee, officials said. Without mediation, the case heads back to Lake County court, trustees said.
