Mount Prospect police charge two in pellet gun shooting

A Mount Prospect man involved in a domestic dispute that led to a soft-lockdown at nearby Prospect High School Tuesday has been charged with domestic battery and reckless conduct after shooting his sister with a pellet gun on Monday, police Operations Cmdr. John Wagner said Wednesday.

Terrence Kereszturi, 62, of the 600 block of Larkdale Lane, was taken into custody Tuesday and appeared in bond court Wednesday, where bail was set at $10,000, Wagner said.

His sister, Janis Ritchie, 52, also of the 600 block of Larkdale Lane, was charged with criminal damage to property for shattering the windshield of Kereszturi’s car, Wagner said.

According to a news release from Mount Prospect police, Ritchie suffered minor injuries from the incident, but refused medical treatment.

A report of the dispute from a family member on Tuesday morning led to the lockdown, as police initially believed the shooting had happened that same day with an actual gun. The lockdown ended after police determined that the situation was less serious than originally indicated.

Kereszturi’s next court date is July 7 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 207 of the Rolling Meadows Courthouse, Wagner said.
