Toddler killed in Aurora

A toddler was killed Saturday in Aurora when an uncle in an SUV backed over him, authorities said.

Officials said they responded to a call about 4:45 p.m. and found 15-month-old Jared Pichardo severely injured in a driveway on the 400 block of Hinman Street. Jared was taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m.

Police are actively seeking the boy's uncle, Rodolfo Pichardo, 21, who fled the scene before police arrived, officials said.

An initial investigation revealed the man backed over the boy in a 2002 green Ford Explorer, briefly stopped, then returned to the vehicle before fleeing the scene, Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said. A second uncle, Rodrigo Pichardo, 24, was also seen in the vehicle. Both men lived at the Hinman Street home with the child.

Rodolfo is 5 feet, 6 inches, weighs about 170 pounds and has a mustache and beard. He was last was seen wearing a white shirt and blue shorts. Rodrigo is 5 feet, 4 inches and weighs about 160 pounds. He was last was seen wearing a red shirt and navy blue shorts, officials said.

The SUV, with license plates A457815, last was seen traveling west on Fourth Avenue. Anyone who sees the Explorer should call 911 immediately. Anyone with additional information should call (630) 256-5330.
