Geneva upends Streamwood

The Streamwood baseball team could not muster the clutch hit in a 3-1 loss at Geneva Tuesday, and the Sabres lost their grip on sole possession of first place in the River Division of the Upstate Eight Conference as a result.

Streamwood managed only 5 hits and stranded 16 runners.

“We had 5 hits, 4 walks and two guys hit by pitches, but we just didn’t get enough consecutive hits,” Streamwood coach Steve Diversey said. “Is that frustrating? At this point of the season, a little bit. But we still have a very good chance to win this conference.”

By virtue of the loss coupled with St. Charles East’s 7-2 victory over St. Charles North at Elfstrom Stadium Tuesday night, Streamwood (25-5, 18-5) fell into a tie for first place with St. Charles East (22-9, 18-5) with 2 games to play.

Junior left-hander Dalton Lundeen (5-1) was the hard-luck losing pitcher for the Sabres. He allowed just 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits and struck out 9 in 6 innings with only 2 walks.

The Sabres host Geneva today.
