1-year-old falls out of window near Cary

A 1-year-old boy who was playing with his older brother in an upstairs bedroom fell out of a second-story window Tuesday night in unincorporated McHenry County near Cary, police said.

The boy’s mother was downstairs at around 7:55 p.m. when she heard “a noise like something that had dropped,” according to a McHenry County sheriff’s office release.

She then went upstairs, noticed the screen was out of the window and realized the boy was not in the room, police said. The boy was found outside the home on the 8300 block of Hickory Nut Grove Road and transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital by the Cary Fire Protection District, police said.

Fire officials said a helicopter was on standby to transport the child but was not needed.

Following a mandate, the sheriff’s office notified DCFS of the incident, but the sheriff’s office does not anticipate any law enforcement actions.
