Palatine teen pleads guilty to vandalizing mailboxes

One of three 18-year-olds charged with vandalizing Palatine mailboxes pleaded guilty to a class 4 felony of damaging property.

A Cook County judge sentenced Robert Wagner to 24 months’ probation in exchange for his guilty plea Thursday in a Rolling Meadows courtroom. The judge also ordered Wagner to pay restitution and perform community service as part of his plea agreement. Court records did not indicate the amount of restitution nor the number of community service hours.

Prosecutors say Wagner, Joshua Rupe and Alyssa Kessel were driving in a car that did not belong to them in late February when they opened the doors as they passed mailboxes on the 700 block of Revere Lane, Palatine. Damages to the car and the mailboxes totaled more than $8,600, prosecutors said. The daughter of the car’s owner gave the keys to the trio, authorities said.

Rupe and Kessel next appear in court on June 9.
