Rose not worried about Watson’s MVP ‘scoop’

Derrick Rose laughed off C.J. Watson’s Twitter “scoop” on the MVP award. Watson sent congratulations to Rose for winning the honor via Twitter message on Friday.

Does Watson know something everyone else doesn’t?

“I guess so, man. I guess,” Rose said with a laugh. “C.J. knows a lot of people out here. A lot of famous people, so watch that guy.”

Rose swore he doesn’t know yet if he’s the MVP, but it’s a foregone conclusion that he’ll win in a landslide. The formal announcement could come Sunday.

Rose admitted if he does get the trophy, it would make a nice Mother’s Day gift for his mom.

“If I get it, it would be nice, unbelievable,” he said. “It’s a goal in the beginning of the year I said I wanted to be able to achieve. That would be huge, not only for me, but the city.”

Making any announcements via Twitter, though, is not Rose’s style.

“I don’t need Twitter. It’s too much trouble,” he joked. “I don’t like telling people what I’m doing.”

Top seed goes down:Coach Tom Thibodeau didn#146;t act shocked that San Antonio, the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, was eliminated in the first round by No. 8 Memphis. The Spurs owned the league#146;s best record until the last two days of the regular season, when the Bulls passed them.#147;You look at the series, they#146;ve all been tough, hard-fought,#148; Thibodeau said. #147;It just takes one little thing to throw you off a little bit. You get a guy who#146;s nicked up a little. Memphis is healthy, playing at a high level. That#146;s all it takes.#148;The Spurs were coasting along with a 57-13 record when Tim Duncan went out briefly with a sprained ankle. San Antonio finished 4-8 and was decidedly outplayed by the Grizzlies.#147;(Memphis forward Zach) Randolph is playing at a very high level and I think Tony Allen brought a lot to their team, a lot of toughness,#148; Thibodeau added. #147;(Mike) Conley has played well, (Marc) Gasol#146;s been terrific. I think (the Spurs) ran into a hot team. Those things happen.#148;Playoff history:The Bulls beat Atlanta twice in the playoffs during the Michael Jordan era, in the 1997 second round and #145;93 first round. They lost to the St. Louis Hawks in the franchise#146;s first playoff appearance in 1967, then again three years later after the Hawks relocated to Atlanta. ... This is the Hawks#146; third straight year in the second round, but they#146;ve been swept in the two previous series by Orlando and Cleveland. Since moving to Atlanta in 1968, the Hawks have never won two series in a single postseason.
