Endorsement: West Chicago Elementary District 33

The West Chicago District 33 school board will have some new faces after this election with one incumbent and four newcomers vying for three open spots. Dave Barclay, with nine years on the board, should be retained because of his knowledge of the financial issues facing the district. He provides continuity and experience. Among the newcomers, John Haffner and Jose Blanco would make good additions to the board. Haffner has been involved with the Citizens Advisory Committee and the Referendum Steering Committee and participated in the strategic planning session. He has a grasp of the issues and good ideas to boot. Blanco has been involved with the Election Commission and other school committees and would be a voice for the growing Hispanic population. Gilbert Wagner and Anne Belgio both have been involved with the PTO, but we urge them to get more school experience and increase their civic involvement.
