Rev. Pfleger says he's been asked to leave parish

CHICAGO — One of Chicago's best known Roman Catholic priests says he has been asked to leave the parish he has served for three decades.

During a rally against gun violence, The Rev. Michael Pfleger said he has been asked to leave St. Sabina Church on Chicago's southwest side. Although there has been reports he's been asked to become the head of Leo High School, he would not discuss it.

Pfleger said Friday he has responded by letter to a request made by Chicago Cardinal Francis George and is awaiting his response.

Pfleger has been pastor of St. Sabina since 1981.

He has long been outspoken on social issues affecting his parish. In addition to being active against gun violence, he has taken stands against liquor and tobacco sales.
