Bulls to unveil Pippen bust on April 7

Only Michael Jordan gets a statue.

But the Bulls will unveil a bronze bust of Hall of Fame forward Scottie Pippen at halftime of the April 7 game against Boston. Plans for the sculpture were announced at the start of the season.

The bust will be permanently displayed on the 100 level concourse of the United Center near Gate 7. The Bulls already have a bust of longtime broadcaster Johnny “Red” Kerr inside the arena.

The bust was crafted by Omri and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany of Highland Park. They also created the Jordan statue, which was unveiled in January 1994 and remains a popular tourist attraction.

“Words really can't express my feelings,” Pippen said in a statement. “It's an unbelievable honor and truly amazing. It's something you dream of as a kid growing up, but you can never foresee those childhood fantasies becoming reality.

“You see statues of individuals who have done great things and made their mark on history, but as a basketball player, you never really think about arriving at this point. It's an amazing honor for the Chicago Bulls to do this for me.”

During 12 seasons with the Bulls, Pippen was a seven-time all-star and a member of all six championship teams.

He recently become an official ambassador for the Bulls and will join the Comcast SportsNet broadcast team during Bulls playoff games.
