Indiana to release findings of investigation into Notre Dame student's death

The Indiana Department of Labor will release its findings next week from an investigation into the death of University of Notre Dame student Declan Sullivan.

Sullivan, a junior from Long Grove, was killed Oct. 27 when a lift from which he was videotaping a football practice collapsed in high winds.

Department Commissioner Lori Torres will brief the news media on the report Tuesday at the Indiana Statehouse in Indianapolis.

The release of the report will come a week after Notre Dame officials announced they would no longer be using student videographers atop lifts to record football practices. Instead, the university is installing four remote=controlled cameras atop 50-foot poles at its practice fields.

Sullivan, 20, died after the scissor lift he was recording from toppled as the Notre Dame team practiced amid high winds gusting more than 50 mph. The university has since faced heavy criticism over the decision to allow the videotaping in those conditions, and its president, the Rev. John Jenkins, later said “we failed to keep him safe.”
