One dead in Streamwood crash

One man was killed and a second remains in critical condition as a result of a multivehicle crash Monday in Streamwood.

Israel Valle-Perez, 49, of Elgin, was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. Monday at Saint Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Valle-Perez, who was driving one of the vehicles involved in a crash, was pronounced dead at the hospital after being transported from the scene.

The driver of a second vehicle, Larry Fitch, 44, of Hampshire, remains in critical condition at an area hospital.

Police were called to the four-vehicle crash in the 500 block of East Lake Street about 2:15 p.m. Monday, officials said. Police said three of the vehicles involved were westbound on Lake Street and the forth was driving east.

The driver of the third vehicle, 44-year-old Virgil Switzer of Addison, remains in good condition at an area hospital.

The passenger in Valle-Perez’s vehicle was taken to an area hospital and later released.

Neither the 26-year-old woman driving the fourth vehicle nor two children in her vehicle were injured, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation.
