New train signals being installed

Union Pacific Railroad crews are preparing to activate new signals on the west line through Wheaton, Glen Ellyn and Lombard.

Federal regulations require the signals to be tested for 60 hours before being activated and those tests will be conducted from Friday through Sunday, Nov. 12-14.

Trains will run more slowly during the testing and there may be longer delays at crossings.

The new signals are part of a multi-million-dollar joint venture between Union Pacific and Metra to improve rail operations.
