Rose getting no complaints about his offense

Derrick Rose's shooting accuracy has not been up to his usual standards in preseason. He's at 43.3 percent heading into Friday's preseason finale against Indiana, compared to 48.3 percent in his first two NBA seasons.

Shot selection isn't an issue. In fact, new coach Tom Thibodeau has voiced no complaints whatsoever, according to Rose.

“Thibs is the only coach that never talked to me about my offense, ever,” Rose said with a laugh. “If anything, the most he's told me about offense is to attack every time on the pick and roll. Other than that, any shot that I take you all might think it's bad or I might think, ‘Oh, that's a bad shot.' He doesn't say nothing.

“He doesn't care about you shooting the ball ever. He just wants you to go out there and play hard. As long as you're playing hard, he doesn't care what you're doing.”

We'll see if that last statement holds up all season. One possible reason for Rose's lower shooting percentage is some sore fingers. And no, he didn't trip over a gym bag on his way to answer the door.

“Reaching in, I guess playing more defense,” Rose surmised while laughing again. “My knuckles are all messed up. At least six fingers are messed up. I guess that comes with playing in the NBA.”

Korver improves

After sitting out Wednesday's win in Toronto because of a cyst in his left ankle, Bulls guard Kyle Korver thinks he might be able to play against Indiana.

“I worked out this morning and felt good,” he said Thursday following the team's annual tipoff luncheon. “They said the cortisone shot takes about two weeks to fully take effect and it's been five days now. It's feeling better. There's still a cyst in there and I can feel it, but I think it's calmed down enough.”

With further treatment, Korver is hoping the cyst fades away and surgery will not be necessary.

“(Surgery) is the last thing we want to do,” he said. “If it would happen, they said it would like 2 to 3 weeks being out.”
