Two plead not guilty in Mount Prospect man's death

Two males charged in the stabbing death of a 52-year-old Mount Prospect man pleaded not guilty.

Marko Guardiola, 37, and Edwin Paniagua, 15, have been charged with first-degree murder, home invasion and aggravated armed robbery in the incident that occurred July 21 at Jean Wattecamps' home in the Colony Apartments. Although Paniagua is a juvenile, he has been charged as adult.

Police say Guardiola, whose address is listed in court records as the 600 block of Perrie Drive in Elk Grove Village, and Paniagua, whose last known address was in Elk Grove Township, met Wattecamps at the apartment complex's swimming pool.

A relative called police concerned that Wattecamps had not shown up for his job at O'Hare International Airport, where he worked as an American Airlines baggage manager.

When police arrived at his apartment, they found the front door standing open and the victim lying face down in his living room couch. He had been stabbed eight times, prosecutors said.

Both suspects are being held without bail. They next appear in court on Sept. 30.
